This last Saturday morning I ran my very first ever run of any kind. It was a Heart and Stroke 5k.
One of my best friends was doing it for a work team and asked me to run with her.
I had been running. albeit around a track at the high school. and that was only off and on until it got too hot to run in the heat of the summer this year. I did exercise before the cruise to Canada in July. and then of course things just kind of fell apart...I had good intentions and then. bluuuh.
I did however prepare for the race by carb loading the night before. I TOTALLY had pizza and cinnamon sticks.
We got there before 8 am Sat.morning it was so cold. I was actually excited to get moving.
We made several jokes about stopping, cutting across the grass, walking it and falling just to get out of running period.
What happened however was quite the opposite. We ran. and ran. and if you've ever run in Utah....the altitude here will dang near kill you. (especially if you haven't trained for it) and it dang near killed me. but I did it. I ran it in 32 minutes too. not bad for a firsty.
Whatever. I know it wasn't a 1/2 marathon. It was just over 3 miles. 3.10686 to be exact. and I did it.
I asked if I could get a ragnar sticker or 26.2 sticker to put on my rear windshield so that I could feel like a real runner. I really wish it was acceptable to put a 5k or a 3.1 sticker on your rear windshield without being laughed at by other runners. but alas. I doubt anyone even makes them.
Running this 5k didn't give me the bug to run another one. Or train for a bigger one. I can't say that I'll ever have a running sticker on my car. but I can't say that I won't either.

| Yes I was the one who kept the bag full of "information" I also walked around and signed up for free stuff at all of the booths too. ;-) |
To add some heart warming to the story. My other friend who I ran with had an accident and was told she would never walk again, it was a surprise that she survived at all. (a guy hit her parachute while paragliding causing her to free fall 250 to the ground) Her bottom half is pretty much screwed together. She ran it. Made it in 37 minutes.
Pretty darn amazing.
Does it inspire me to work harder to run another one. eeeeh, not so much. :)
