Hot rock crayon coloring

It's summer and my children are B-O-R-E-D after 15 minutes.   And after 3 minutes they start pick pick picking with each other.
I AM SO SICK OF THE FIGHTING.  huhaa huhaaa huhaaa (breathing)  ok....I'm ok....I'm ok.
Any hew.
The babies didn't love it so much.  Well, Nathan just wanted to color everything BUT the rock.   Ryan (like his mother at a mexican restaurant) was told...don't touch it buddy it's hot.  and then immediately touched it to see if it was in fact hot.    After his finger got hurt he didn't want anything to do with it.
The older kids loved it.
It kept them pre occupied for at LEAST 30 minutes.   Well and then there was the searching for the rocks and fighting over whose rock was whose and washing them, heating them in the oven and coloring them.   So all in all it was a 45min-1hr project.   32 minutes of that time was used constructively and happily.
You can't PAY that kind of money for time like this.

The rocks turned out super cool and I can see lots of other great ideas you could use with the same basic equipment.
Only 11 hrs and 15 minutes left.  :)

How to :  collect rocks of any size (bigger work better I think) heat in the oven until warmish-hotish-melt crayonsish tempurature.  (you may even have some hot enough in the sun that would work)   peel the wrapping off of the crayons and color.    Super easy, Super fun !
